“…The most truthful speech is the Book of Allah. The best way is the way of Muhammad (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam). The worst of affairs are the novelties; every novelty (in the deen) is an innovation, every innovation is misguidance & every misguidance is in the Fire.” An-Nasaa’e. “Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours (Islam) that is not part of it, will have it rejected.” (Bukhari). The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: Whoever lies about me deliberately should get a seat in hell fire. (Bukhari). Myths, fabrications & innovations in the “deen” are partners in crime; they go hand in hand; one can lead to the other. The deviants & kufaar innovate by intentionally fabricating to justify their kufr believes & positions. The SHIAS, AHMADIS, BAHIS, SUFIS etc. are largely guilty of this. The ignorant & cultural Muslims fall into innovations through blindly following their culture or prevalent myths & superstitious practices that they wrongly consider to be part of Islam. Some other ignorant people fall into innovations through whimsical & excessive love which make them blindly follow their shaykh, Mureed, Maulana on everything he commands without asking why. It suffices to say that innovation is fueled by ignorance, misconceptions, deviant groups, whimsical love, blind following & culture confusion. Promotion of an innovation automatically leads to abandonment of a Sunnah”.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “According to sharee’ah, Bid’ah is ‘Worshipping Allaah in ways that Allaah has not prescribed.’ Or  ‘in ways that are not those of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) or his rightly guided successors (al-khulafaa’ al-raashidoon).’”

“Or have they partners with Allaah (false gods) who have instituted for them a religion which Allaah has not ordained?” [42:21]

(Ref and pro.said##)“I urge you to adhere to my way (Sunnah) and the way of the rightly-guided successors (al-khulafa’ al-raashidoon) who come after me. Hold fast to it and bite onto it with your eyeteeth [i.e., cling firmly to it], and beware of newly-invented matters.”

So, everyone who worships Allaah in a manner that Allaah has not prescribed or in a manner that is not in accordance with the way of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) or his rightly-guided successors (al-khulafa’ al-raashidoon), is an innovator, whether that innovated worship has to do with the names and attributes of Allaah, or to do with His rulings & laws.

With regard to ordinary matters of habit & custom, these are not called bid’ah (innovation) in Islam, even though they may be described as such in linguistic terms. But they are not innovations in the religious sense, and these are not the things that the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) was warning us against. And there is no such thing in Islam as bid’ah hasanah (good innovation in the deen).”.(Majmoo’ Fataawa Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, vol. 2, p. 291)

Furthermore, “Bid’ah” according to Islamic teaching is any invented way in religion that is aimed at worshipping or drawing closer to Allaah. This means anything that is not referred to specifically in Sharee’ah, and for which there is no evidence (daleel) in the Qur’aan or Sunnah, and which was not known at the time of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam  )& his Companions. It does not include worldly inventions [such as cars & washing machines, microphone, loudspeakers etc.].
Jareer ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Bajali (radiallahuanihu) said: “Messenger of Allaah (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: ‘Whoever starts a good thing and is followed by others, will have his own reward and a reward equal to that of those who follow him, without it detracting from their reward in any way. Whoever starts a bad thing and is followed by others, will bear the burden of his own sin and a burden equal to that of those who follow him, without it detracting from their burden in any way.'” (Muslim)
Many deviants use this hadith as a justification for innovations in the deen, to confuse & brain wash their flocks. The story behind this hadeeth will explain what “whoever starts a good thing” means. Imaam Muslim reported from Jareer ibn ‘Abdullaah, who also narrated the hadeeth itself. He said: “Some people from the Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allaah (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam), wearing woollen garments. He saw that they were in bad shape and in desperate need, so he urged the people to give them charity. The people were very slow to respond, and it could be seen in his face (that he was upset). Then a man of the Ansaar brought a package of silver, then another came, and another and another, and his face was filled with joy. Then, the Messenger of Allaah (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said this statement. It does not mean innovation in the deen, rather it means: Whoever revives a part of the Sunnah of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam), or teaches it to others, or commands others to follow it, or acts according to it so that others see him or hear about it and follow his example
